Oh, lordy, lordy!  The world could use a few good leaders to promote social and economic change!

Just around the turn of the century, Sister Betty hatched the idea to create a scholarship fund and the Sisters voted to make it an official project.  The first scholarships were awarded in 2001 and the amount distributed has grown each year.

The Sisters' Economic and Social Justice Scholarship Fund gives cash grants to cover the educational expenses of college students committed to promoting economic and social justice.  Grants from $500 to $1,000 are awarded to students in the United States.  Applicants are evaluated for financial need, community involvement and commitment to create social change.  Age, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation are not considered.  There are no fees to apply for or receive a grant.

The Sisters:

The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence are a gaggle of queer nuns.  Founded in 1979 by a group of gay men with some well-worn habits, we've spread from San Francisco to countries across the planet.  The Sisters specialize in creating universal joy and expiating stigmatic guilt.  (Translation:  we work our wimples off making the world just a bit brighter.)
